Future Perfect – future perfect tense in English. Usually used for is used to describe an action that will be completed by some point in the future. Present perfect is formed with the help of the auxiliary verb will (or less often shall) and the perfect infinitive (have + meaningful verb in the third form) without the particle to. If the verb is correct, then ed is added to its ending.

Past Perfect is used to show that one action happened before another action in the past.

Formation: had + past participle (V3)

Example: I had finished my work before she arrived.

Past Perfect is a verb tense in English used to describe actions that were completed before another action or moment in the past. It emphasizes that one action occurred earlier than another action in the past. Past Perfect is formed using the auxiliary verb “had” plus the past participle of the main verb: add -ed for regular verbs or use the third form from the irregular verb table.

Present Perfect – the present perfect tense in English. Usually used to express a past event that has consequences in the present. The present perfect is formed using the auxiliary verbs has / have and the third form of the verb (past participle), and if the verb is correct, we add the ending -ed.

To form the Past Continuous, we use the was / were form of the verb “to be” plus the infinitive of the verb ending in -ing.

It is important to know:

verbs ending in е, the last letter is dropped and added -ing (hate – hating)

verbs ending in ie, the ending is replaced by -y + -ing (lie – lying).

monosyllabic verbs ending in 1 vowel + 1 consonant double the final consonant (upset – upsetting).

Examples:

While I was cooking, Dan was reading a book

I was cooking when the telephone rang

At 10:00 last night, we were watching TV
