Rules for using Some/any
Some means several/certain amount
- Used in affirmative sentences (+)
Example:
- There is some flour on the table
- There are some peppers on the table
Any means anything or none/neither
- Used in interrogative (?) or negative sentences (–)
Example:
- Is there any sugar in the cupboard?
- Are there any carrots in the fridge?
- There aren’t any tomatoes in the fridge
- There isn’t any chocolate in the cupboard
